Turkey Fan Mounting Tips

Turkey Fan Mounting Tips

Turkey season has been done for a while.  But, before I hang up my fan for good, I wanted to share a tip for mounting your trophy.  There is always next year.

When cutting the fan off the bird, try to take as little meat as possible near the joint that holds the tail onto the turkey.  If you get a little extra, that can be trimmed off easily.  Cut the beard off, just were it feels loose next to the breast meat. Once they are cut off, use Borax detergent and liberally apply it to the flesh.  This helps dry out the meat faster and keeps bugs away too. Next use a pants hanger with clips to help dry out the tail while it is fanned out.  This little tip will help hold the shape of the fan in place while it drys out. You can even hang it up while its drying leaving more space on your counter top.

That’s it. Simple and effective. Remember to tag #leapoutdoors with your turkey photos.
